The TACA Board wishes to pass on our heartfelt condolences to the Olsen family and friends of our great friend and colleague Derek Olsen, who sadly passed suddenly while holidaying in his home state of Western Australia, on Saturday 28th December.
Many of us have known and worked closely with Derek on all things TACA (Testing and Commissioning Association) and NEBB Australia over the past 15 or so years. Derek has greatly contributed to Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) field in the HVAC & R industry in Australia including the following major achievements and recognition;
Development of XOperative, a paperless Report Management System for Testing and Balancing of building air conditioning systems, taken up by TAB companies around the world
Winner of the AIRAH product of the year for XOperative
TACA board member and prime author of the TACA Standards & Procedures Manual, released in late 2023
Producer of exceptional VR Training packages for the HVAC Industry
Served as a NEBB Australia board member for many years and served a term as the Australian representative on the National Board in the USA
A respected Independent TAB Contractor who worked on many projects in Western Australia, the Northern Territory and Papua New Guinea
An inspiring presenter, training technicians and engineers in the HVAC & R industry with a humorous entertaining delivery repour
A passionate training advocate for young individuals with a thirst for industry knowledge
Derek was an inspiration to us all, with his quick wit, and adventurous and innovative approach. He looked for better ways to automate the day-to-day tasks, while developing training and education tools to simplify understanding for the novice. TAB education and work in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration Industry are far better for his contribution.
Derek Olsen, a great mate never to be forgotten.
