The Testing and Commissioning Association Inc. (TACA) was formed in early 2021, when a group of building commissioning organisations saw a lack of ongoing professional development and local support for the Australian and Asia/Pacific commissioning industry. 

The TACA community is a coalition of the most recognised commissioning specialists from around Australia and given the current uptake from all sectors of the industry, is on track to become the foremost local standard for the building commissioning industry.

At the helm of TACA is President, Chris Wright.  Chris’ extensive commissioning experience, and involvement in the industry and community for more than 45 years has been vital in the foundation and campaigning of this new association.  He has been a driving force in establishing new relationships with other peak industry organisations – AIRAH and AMCA.

“It has been an extremely hectic start for the TACA Board. It’s taken a lot of volunteer hours to establish a suitable model for Trainees, Technicians, Supervisors, Companies and Affiliates.   Our region has had a rich history of commissioning standards and procedures put in place by overseas organisations for over 40 years, so it now feels fitting to build a local association.  TACA launched in November 2021.  Since then, we have been getting great responses from the industry. 

TACA’s vision is to be able to work with AIRAH and the AMCA to provide a quality accreditation model and associated training for those involved in engineering, installation and commissioning HVAC & R systems. Currently, our focus is on TAB, but we see the future in Building Air Tightness testing, Clean Room and Fume Hood accreditation.  TACA is looking to working closely in all states with local HVAC & R TAFE and training organisations to get a common message to all involved in all facets of the industry. 

As we enter a post-Covid / climate change response era, I urge everyone in the HVAC TAB space to get on board and support a quality accreditation scheme that meets the needs of consulting engineers, facility managers, building owners and tenants.”

Still in its early development, TACA has already been overwhelmed with industry support, and their list of new members is growing rapidly.  With a heavy emphasis on providing consistent up-to-date benchmarking and training, TACA will ensure we all have a long lasting and positive legacy for the built environment into the future.
